An existing parkinggarage in the Citycenter of Rotterdam will be covered by a green filter, transforming a polluting garage into an integral self-cleaning machine. This green filter is realized with climbing plants and will be fed by the rainwater which falls on the roof of the garage. GreenPark contributes positively to the environment and air quality in the city. It also relieves the sewer through re-usage of rainwater. As a green city-oasis it increases the quality of life in urban areas and improves cities ecology and biodiversity. For a more scientific approach some of the projects benefits, such as binding finedust, C02 reduction and innercity heatrelief, will be translated in measurable data after completion. Lightweight gabions are used to lead the climbers up on an articulated facade which best can be read as an abstract tree structure. This shapes the wall vegetation into an architectural image The climbing plants eventually will cover up to 5000 m2 which makes it the largest green facade project of Europe. See also:
